Berry Botanic Garden to move seed bank to Portland State, raising funds

Berry Botanic Garden, Portland, OR

Patrick at the Berry Botanic Garden, Portland, OR in September 2010

Back in September we visited the Berry Botanic Garden, very near where we live in SW Portland, for a book sale, and we walked around some trails. We learned that the garden was closing and the property up for sale. The BBC Seed Bank – 3 million seeds representing over 350 endangered plants – and its accompanying conservation program will be moving to Portland State University. There is a fundraising effort at hand for this move (a new seed vault is needed and the program to be established at PSU), and a matching opportunity of up to $25,000 (the John Gray Oregon Native Plant Conservation Challenge) until March 1st.

Click here to find out more information about donating, and there is a Facebook page for the effort as well.
