Every September, thousands of Vaux Swifts roost in the chimney of Chapman Elementary School in north Portland during their migration south. Since we moved here, I had heard that watching them head into the chimney at dusk was a spectacle. Earlier this evening, Patrick and I headed via bus to the school and grabbed a spot in the crowd. Audubon Society of Portland was on hand with information for Swift Watch 2011.
