Whale watching at Ecola State Park

Third time is a charm. Twice Patrick and I have headed to the Oregon coast attempting to see migrating gray whales. Both times we came up empty-handed. This time, on March 26, we got to see some in the form of their blows shooting up from the surface of the water and quickly turning into mist above the windy ocean (6 in all, through binoculars; sorry, no pictures).

That said, we had loads of fun exploring around Ecola State Park, where volunteers were on hand assisting visitors in seeing the whales.

Enjoy the pictures!

The blows we saw were all just to the right of the deactivated Tillamook Head Lighthouse (also referred to as Tillamook Rock Light).

Large group of birds on the water, I don’t know what species:

I asked Patrick to take a photo of me looking out for whales. Nice job, Patrick!
