Canoeing at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park

This was Patrick and my first time at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park () in NE Portland, in mid-May. It is part of the Columbia Slough, and hence the place that the Columbia Slough Watershed Council uses a lot for environmental education. We signed up for a short evening canoe trip through the slough just east of the ponds. A coworker of mine and his son joined us and we had a great time, including exploring around the pond afterward. Enjoy the pictures.

Oh, and Jasper was there, too. He and his parents were in a different canoe.

Awesome! I’m teaching Nature Day Camp at Whitaker Ponds this week and am realizing that it’s such a great park to take kids. We went canoeing down the Slough today and it’s amazing to see how much more duck weed and general vegetation growth there is in the waterway now as opposed to in May.
