Monday thought of the week: bring nature to the child

A thought:

[I]t’s been shown several times that contact with nature is actually important for psychological development and so children who are in a concrete jungle with… little opportunity to learn about the natural world, or equally children everywhere who are glued to their computer screens and computer games – I mean, you know this is becoming really frightening. What can we do about it? … if you can’t get the child into nature, then bring nature to the child.

– Primatologist Jane Goodall, describing why her Institute’s Roots & Shoots program for children is so important, in an interview for feminist.com in February 2010, here.

One Response to Monday thought of the week: bring nature to the child

  1. Frank says:

“if you can’t get the child into nature, then bring nature to the child” – I really like this phrase! Today’s generation of computer, children don’t know now how enjoy nature, what it feels to breath fresh air, climb to those trees and lay in the grass.
