  1. Michael, I am stumped by the cold. Where should we go for outdoor fun in the middle of the winter cold spell. Who has a nice warm indoor exhibit to help us warm up? What outdoor events will make our little ones forget about the cold? I am feeling house bound 😦

The cold gets to me too, especially since we’ve just had a round of the flu through us all here! I think coupling a chort trail walk with indoor exhibits at a nature center is a great idea. Suggestions:

Tryon Creek State Park in Portland: nature center has some education displays

Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Sherwood: large visitor center with a diorama-style exhibit area with much to read and look at, scope usually set up at window to see bald eagle nest out in the refuge. New giant bald eagle sculpture not a long walk from center

Tualatin Hills Nature Park in Beaverton: interpretive center with nature exhibits and a cozy fireplace room with a reading library

Audubon Society of Portland: visitor center full of taxidermy and birdfeeders along some windows for easy viewing. Wildlife care center great place to see birds up close.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve in Hillsboro: large nature center with lots of exhibits
