Nature doesn’t need “to be pristine” to be valuable to children — a vacant lot, single tree, small patch of lawn, or even a cracked sidewalk with weeds growing through it, is enough to inspire exploration and nurture skills.

– Eli Strull, in Pam J. Hecht, “Nature offers hands-on summer learning for kids,” Citizen-Times (July 2, 2014)
