Monday thought of the week: for it all to mean anything

A thought:

Let the water flow back, but let us be allowed to step into it as well, as we surely have and must for it all to mean anything. Let us and our children put our fingers into the world and raise nature tables inside and out. Only so long as we can make contact with the remaining quasi-wild places and only so long as the names we have given them and their inhabitants carry on being operative, might we continue to be able to “lie down in the word-hoard” as Seamus Heaney put it in his poem “North.”
